Differences between diamonds and cubic zirconia

Well there are few differences between diamonds and cubic zirconia you should really know. First of all diamond is made of carbon while cubic zirconia is made of zirconium oxide. To put as simply as possible cubic zirconia is basically form of glass created artificially while diamonds took millions of yeas to be formed in nature. Cubic zirconia is almost worthless compared to diamond, though in most cases looks flawless, something that real diamonds very rarely do.

Most people won't be able to tell the difference between the diamonds and cubic zirconia and this is the reason why some people use cubic zirconia as alternative to diamond, but if you really want the best possible diamond alternative then I would definitely go for moissanite. Diamonds are much harder than cubic zirconia, cubic zirconia is softer, and usually sparkier than diamonds are.

Not so long ago it was fairly easy to separate diamonds from cubic zirconia but as the technology developed it is now very difficult to separate these two. So if you are on lookout for some cheap diamond alternative then cubic zirconia will do just fine, though to be honest this wouldn't be among my top diamond alternative choices. The real deal always costs more than its alternative, and the same goes with diamonds and cubic zirconia.

If you ask girls they will tell you to stick with the diamonds all the time, after all diamonds have tradition on their side, and cubic zirconia is really nothing more than a cheap replacement. But sometimes tradition isn't everything, and if you're on a really tight budget you really wouldn't care that much about tradition. Would you?

The most expensive diamond in the world

The new record is set. The most expensive diamond in the world, weighing 7.03 carats was sold for staggering 10.5 million Swiss francs ($9.49 million), which is the highest price paid per carat for any gemstone at auction. This record breaker was a rectangular-shaped, flawless vivid blue diamond the rarest to enter the international market this year. The lucky owner decided to remain anonymous.

The record is even more remarkable given the current recession, but as David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's jewelry department in Europe and the Middle East said: "It is fantastic in this market and shows that these rare things are very much in demand". Blue diamonds of such quality are indeed extremely rare. One carat of this flawless blue diamond achieved staggering price of $1,349,752 per carat, the highest ever at any auction so far.

The previous record price for a fancy vivid blue diamond was $7.9 million, including commission, for a stone weighing 6.04 carats at sale in Hong Kong in October 2007.

The lucky new owner will also have the privilege to name this diamond that was originally mined in famous Cullinan mine in South Africa. Cullinan mine is especially famous as source of many quality blue diamonds but this diamond is really special because it was mined last year, cut early this year, and already sold, which is really an exception because usually it takes much longer for diamond to pass all these phases.

All that is left to do with this diamond is to name it. I'm sure owner will think of one, after all he's got more than 9 million reasons to think of it.

Diamond rings - Tradition that has become part of our lives

Today we can speak about diamond rings as part of our lives thanks to a rich diamond history and tradition. It took more than 500 years since first diamond engagement ring deserved its presence in history books. In that time, back in 1477, this was reserved to noble men only, but today you don't have to be an archduke to give your loved one a perfect diamond engagement ring.

Mix of tradition, symbolism, and of course excellent marketing have transformed diamond rings into the perfect tokens of love, because only love and diamonds last forever so why not connect these two into the perfect one? In ancient history only kings were allowed to wear diamonds, so it is really no surprise every woman feels like a queen when presented with diamond engagement ring. Queen in love that is, and there's no better feeling than this one.

True love is rare just like diamonds are, and ring is a symbol of connection between two people so diamond ring actually presents eternal connection between two people in love, love that will last to eternity and even beyond. Of course romance is just one side of the coin, and big diamond industry another one. Major diamond players like De Beers knew that there's no better way to sell something than to connect it with love. Diamond rings are not tokens of love for a small price, for instance every year in USA about 7 billion dollars is spent on diamond rings so as you can see this is an excellent business as well.

Basically you can look at it from two different points of view: romantic one or the business one. I prefer to look at it from the romantic point of view because diamond rings have become such a tradition that we are already talking about certain way of life. This may be more to a good marketing than to diamond's rich history and tradition, but I really try not to look at it that way. After all we could look at almost all things from economic point of view, and where would it lead us? One dimensional life with no excitements whatsoever, where it all comes down to money. And diamond rings are not all about money, or at least they shouldn't be.

In any case I look at it from this point of view: we all say that person have to make sacrifice for true love, and if we accept this than sacrificing lets say three months salary is definitely a small price to pay if not for anything else than to see that shine if happiness in your darling's eyes once she says yes. This sight alone is really priceless, and is something you'll remember for your entire life.

Choosing perfect diamond ring is not an easy task to do, but with little basic knowledge it can be done without any major problems. All you have to do is set the budget, now approximately what kind of shape you want, and the adventure can start.
If you have decided to go for the jugular and buy the diamond engagement ring then you probably know the taste of your future to be which should make things lot easier for you.

Whether to buy expensive diamond ring or not depends mainly on your budget, and of course it is not wise to spend it over your head. Diamond doesn't have to be the biggest of all time, and in most cases any diamond ring will do the trick. After all you are not buying love with diamond ring, you are just showing to your loved one how much you feel about her and hope that she feels the same so your love can reach the eternity. Eternal love isn't hidden in that shiny stone but in your hearts but it's so easy to show this love through that perfect engagement diamond ring on her finger. Isn't it?
